On World Environment Day, June 5, 2018, Futureco Bioscience participated in the Innovation Day of Anoia, in Vilanova del Camí, dedicated to the circular economy as an economic model of resource management. Carolina Fernández, Director of R + D + I of Futureco Bioscience, participated in the round table of industrial innovations in the framework of the circular economy, speaking about the Enzytech project.
The circular economy is a practice that seeks for any economic activity to take full advantage of existing resources leaving the minimum of virgin waste possible, closing the circle of production and consumption processes, as an uninterrupted circle. Examples of circular economy are the closed processes of manufacture, use and recycling of paper, from recycled or used paper, plastic and organic matter from previous recycled plastic and processed organic matter. The goal is to establish circular relationships of processes that reduce the impact of human activity on the environment.
Enzytech is a project for the design of enzymatic technologies for the extraction of molecules with bioestimulant or phytosanitary activity of low risk, from by-products of vegetable origin from the agro-food and energy industry. These by-products have apparently no value or are waste, and could be used as agro-biological inputs of low environmental impact, promoting the circular economy and the development of clean agriculture solutions. The obtaining of bioactive molecules will be carried out by means of enzymatic non-aggressive techniques such as extraction and hydrolysis.
Enzytech is lead by Futureco Bioscience in collaboration with Leitat, framed in the NUCLIS line of industrial research and experimental development offered by ACC1Ó and partially financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
