We celebrate 26 years developing agricultural inputs with low environmental impact

26 años insumos agrícolas de bajo impacto ambiental

26 years have passed since Rafael Juncosa, CEO of Futureco Bioscience, entered Futur Eco SL in the company register of Barcelona. His objective was to design, manufacture and commercialize agricultural inputs with low environmental impact, that left no residues in the environment, and suitable for organic farming. At that time, in 1993, these agriculture practices were still perceived as minimalist and typical of small producers who could afford to cultivate in their free time, not of big producers.

Rafael opted for the business line of agricultural inputs with low environmental impact, using biocontrol agents for plant protection, to replace or complement conventional chemical pesticides. On the other hand, biostimulants and biofertilizers for vegetable nutrition and improvement of crop metabolism, zero waste. He firmly believed that this trend would become a global demand of governments and administrations as soon as pollution, soil erosion and health risks were unsustainable. He was right, in a few years, as Rafael found distributors of Futur Eco products in different parts of the world, environmental awareness and the need to develop agricultural practices with low environmental impact became an emerging global need.

At that time, research trials to formulate products and test their effectiveness was outsourced to departments of universities and laboratories. In 2001 it was decided to start up the Futur Eco R & D Department, and in 2005 the company’s laboratories were inaugurated in the Mediterranean Technology Park, in Castelldefels, Barcelona. From then until today, the Department grew from 1 person to the 26 that today make it up. In this process, the company changed its name from Futur Eco SL to Futureco Bioscience SA. Today it has its facilities in Olèrdola, which make up more than 750 square meters of laboratories, and more than 4000 square meters more in greenhouses, factory, logistics area and offices. The company is defined as a Spanish agrobiotech that researches, develops, manufactures and commercializes agricultural inputs with low environmental impact for nutrition and plant protection.
