Discovered biocontrol activity against plant diseases of the bacterial strain P. putida B2017

Researchers from the R&D Department of Futureco Bioscience have published in the scientific journal Biocontrol Science and Technology the article Pseudomonas putida strain B2017 produced as technical grade active ingredient controls fungal and bacterial crop diseases, which abstract can be found here.

The article describes the production of strain B2017 of Pseudomonas putida in bioreactors of 2-14-125L scalable and reproducible at industrial level as well as the evaluation of efficacy of this strain as Active Ingredient Technical Grade (IAGT) against different phytopathogens (Fusarium oxysporum f .sp radicis lycopersici in tomato, Rhizoctonia solani and Pectobacterium atrosepticum in potato, and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in lettuce) at commercially reasonable doses when applied to both foliar spray and soil.

The P. putida bacteria is a species whose biostimulant and biocontrol activity has been referenced in the scientific literature in recent years. However, there are no biocontrol products on the market based on this species.

Obtaining a high concentration of that microorganism isolated from the field, as a commercial product, requires to consider its production method at the industrial level, among many other aspects. The most commonly used is liquid fermentation in bioreactors. It is necessary to investigate optimal culture media and growth parameters (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, agitation …) to obtain the best yield of microorganism, while preserving its activity when formulated and applied to the field. Futureco Bioscience has succeeded.
