The Spanish Society of Phytopathology (S.E.F.) organized from the 27th of September to the 1st of October its XV congress in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Euskadi - Spain).

FUTURECO BIOSCIENCE participated actively in the congress through an oral communication titled “Development of a microbiological based product for the control of nematodes” and with a poster entitled “In-vitro Effectiveness of a new Biofungicide based on spores of Streptomyces lydicus WYEC 108” where the biofungicide activity of ACTINOVATE® was tested on two fungi that affect the root system of the crops (Pythium ultimum and Fusarium oxysporum) and two fungi that affect the foliar system of plants (Alternaria porri and Botrytis aclada).

The majority of the participants (355) were investigators coming from universities and research centres related to the Phytopathology sector. In this occasion, among the assistants and organizations were 13 companies, 9 of which belonging to the Phytosanitary Sector, the Spanish Ministry of Environment and Agriculture (MARM), the Ministry of Science and Innovation and different Local and Autonomic Authorities from Euskadi.

The congress was structured in 14 sessions that approached different subjects related to the Aetiology, Diagnosis, Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Resistance and Control. This year, the current European Directive of Sustainable for the Use of Pesticides had a special attention during the different approaches to the methods for control. A total number of 72 oral communications (25% for Phytosanitary Control) and 250 panels (30% of Phytosanitary Control, of whom 66% related to the Biological Control) were exposed during the congress.

FUTURECO BIOSCIENCE participated actively in the congress through an oral communication titled “Development of a microbiological based product for the control of nematodes” where was showed the results obtained in a 3 years investigation project, partially financed by ACC1O (COPCA-CIDEM). Thanks to the execution of the project, a strain of Bacillus sp. was identified as a Biological Control Agent for nematodes. Two commercial prototypes were formulated with high stability at room and cooled temperature, and reached effectiveness of 90% in the inhibition of theMeloidogyne egg hatch in tomato plants. Although still many studies are necessary, taking care of the needs for registration of this type of products, the results of this project set the bases for the development of a new biological nematicide.

In addition, FUTURECO BIOSCIENCE participated with a Poster entitled “In-vitro Effectiveness of a new Biofungicide based on spores of Streptomyces lydicus WYEC 108” where the biofungicide activity of ACTINOVATE® was tested on two fungi that affect the root system of the crops (Pythium ultimum and Fusarium oxysporum) and two fungi that affect the foliar system of plants (Alternaria porri and Botrytis aclada). This Biofungicide is currently in the status of registry for its inclusion in Annexe I of the European Directive for Plant Protection Products (PPP).

FUTURECO BIOSCIENCE keeps betting on the research of effective and environmental friendly tools in order to solve the damages caused by different organisms on the agricultural crops. The assistance and participation in these type of forums, permits the company to be at the forefront of trends in Innovation of the Phytopathology, and as well to show to the scientific community, the advances in R+D of the company, positioning FUTURECO BIOSCIENCE as a leader company in the Biological Control sector.
